Tangled Mysteries is the 14th episode of Into Volthune. It was originally streamed on Twitch on March 30, 2023. It was later released on YouTube on April 3, 2023.
The group learns about the Creature and Themis. Krios and Victor opens up about their families.
Following the events of in The Waystones (episode 13), Barry, Eden, Krios, Kyris, Tauré, and Victor found themselves face-to-face with the Creature in Themis’ clothes. While answering the group’s questions, the Creature revealed themselves to be Na, a Fey with powers relevant enough to have caused the creation of many folklores. In another bombshell, Na revealed that although Themis is Na, Na is not Themis. Na assured the group that they meant no harm, and that the group would not be questioning Na if they meant harm.
A name is a powerful thing to a Fey.
Tauré expressed his distrust of Na as they had disguised themself as a human for the entire time that the group had known them. Na pointed out the experiences of Krios, Kyris, and Victor, along with Tauré’s own experiences, with mistreatment and abuse from humans. Na assured Tauré that they were simply trying to survive. In an attempt of reassuring Tauré, Na gave him a warranty in the form of their weakness: iron.
Na revealed their goal of returning home to their domain in the Feywilds, which aligns with the group’s common goal of breaking through the Barrier. The Violet Thorne Inn was also revealed to be Na’s base of operations, and every owner of the Inn except for one were all Na in various personas. To Kyris, Na offered to tell her about the eladrins in the Feywilds from 1,000 years ago.
Amidst the confusion, Barry and Eden stepped forward to be the voice of reason in the group. They argued that Na had already proven themself through Themis’ actions. Tauré agreed and led the group to the next Waystone.
In their journey, the group continued to question Na. Barry asked about Hiyluna, the writer of his journal. Na revealed that they, in fact, remembered her. Though she did not speak much, she had much of the same goal as the Barry, Kyris, Tauré, and themself. She had a companion who was much less memorable to Na. Kyris asked about other eladrins. Unfortunately, they went into hiding much like the elves.
Just as with the first Waystone, the second Waystone was so subtle that the group did not notice it until they were close. When they arrived, Victor used his magnifying glass to cast detect magic. He saw a blinding streak of concentrated magic on the Waystone. Tauré sensed that the Waystone, though it stands tall above ground, it goes much deeper into the ground. He warned the group not to mess around with the ley line, speaking from personal experience.
When the sun set, the group planned their watch. The agreed to set camp within the protective barrier of the Waystone. Both Kyris and Tauré wanted to take first watch with Na. During the watch, Kyris opened up about her struggle switching to her other forms. Na revealed their own struggle with fading powers. They told Kyris that eladrins in the Fey could switch forms just as easily, even as they were speaking. Na asked Kyris if her parents had switch forms before. They never did. And while there were many eladrins before, it was revealed that Kyris seems to be the only one of her generation. When Kyris opened up about Thevari, her guiding person, Na seemed to knew all about him. They claimed that powerful Fey tend to know of each other.
Kyris and Tauré took it upon themselves to attempt to decode the journal for the remainder of their watch. After failing that, Kyris walked outside the protective barrier of the Waystone and looked at the journal in anger.
